From learner need to product strategy
The starting behavior was concrete: hear a citizenship question in English, answer aloud, review an accepted answer, and return to material that needs more practice. The audience includes applicants, people helping them study, and educators seeking supplemental practice. Guided study and realistic interview simulation serve different moments in that journey.
The product is independent educational practice. Its message does not claim government affiliation or guarantee an interview result.
The learning experience
SpeakCivics covers the 2008 and 2025 civics tests and N-400 interview questions. Its web experience combines audio-first practice, accepted alternative answers, replay, results, difficult-question review, reading and writing activities, adjustable audio speed, and translation assistance across 21 languages. State-dependent questions include prompts to help learners review answers for where they live.
A spreadsheet-style content management view supports question and answer maintenance. The product also has an iPhone and iPad build prepared through the Apple review workflow; App Store availability is separate from the web purchase.
Commerce and customer access
The public website explains the practice, shows a bounded demonstration, and connects the customer to a one-time web purchase through Lemon Squeezy. An emailed access key, browser activation, existing-customer route, support content, and administrative access complete the customer journey. A first customer purchase and working activation were confirmed, validating the checkout-to-access path. That early transaction is a functional proof point, not evidence of broad market demand.
Cross-device testing and release decisions
Testing exposed an iPhone Safari microphone lifecycle issue after the first question, along with audio, navigation, and content-management problems. The web work addressed microphone start, stop, and release behavior and refined simulation navigation and playback. Microphone answering was removed from the public sales demo when it did not meet the desired reliability standard, while the full purchased experience retained speaking practice.
Release work also covered mobile layout, content, permissions, activation, and iOS presentation materials. These details matter because a product is only useful when its core journey works on the devices customers use.
Launch foundation and outcome
The project connected the product with its brand, sales website, search-focused pages, screenshots and demonstrations, an Instagram presence, educator and community outreach materials, and a small paid-ad test. A 50-organization prospect list and personalized outreach copy were prepared. The verified outcomes are a functioning product, live web purchase path, first confirmed activation, and launch assets; no claims are made about advertising return or learner success rates.
